4. Additional information

4.2. Firmware

4.2.1. Updates for version 2.0 or later

Functionality is currently being developed and will be available soon.

The operation can be performed independently by the user using a USB connection and the X-KEY Neo software.

4.2.2. Update from version 1.9.00 or earlier

Software updates to version 2.0 or later may only be performed by an authorized service center or the manufacturer. Physical access to the machine is required for this operation in order to perform the following steps:

  • carrying out a technical inspection,
  • verification of the compatibility of all machine components,
  • installing new software and performing calibration procedures,
  • conducting tests to confirm the correct functioning of the machine.

4.2.3. Changes in version 2.0

Below is a summary of the most important changes introduced in version 2.0 of the X-KEY Terminator machine firmware compared to version 1.9.00.

These changes have been developed to improve operator comfort and safety, increase machine reliability, and expand the available functional and service features.

  • Acceleration of movements for all operations.
  • New original scanning algorithm:
    • the operating time is approximately 1 minute (3–5 times faster)
    • better protection against operator errors.
  • New milling algorithm:
    • the milling cutter should not break so often
    • processing time slightly reduced (approx. 10–20%)
    • further acceleration is not possible due to the type of cutter (very thin).
  • Additional milling options:
    • selection of whether the profile should be "raised" or true to the original (previously always raised),
    • cutting off excess for single-sided keys — configurable depending on the purpose (related to the above option),
    • selection of material for processing: brass or new silver (for new materials, the processing time is longer due to their hardness).
  • Modified referencing process:
    • more effective detection of probe plate contamination (fewer false messages),
    • quick probe plate test — reduces the number of incorrect scans.
  • New user interface:
    • new, more understandable messages,
    • changed button order (e.g., exit and return on the right side),
    • progress bars for operations,
    • displaying the estimated completion time during milling.
  • New service menu:
    • simplified — contains only the most important options for the operator,
    • ability to select and save default milling options,
    • ability to disable the audible signal,
    • extended tests facilitate remote troubleshooting.
  • New process for replacing and calibrating milling cutters:
    • completely revised algorithm — more resistant to operator errors,
    • calibration possible without replacing the cutter (wear counters are retained),
    • the service life of the cutter is determined as a percentage based on the number of cutting movements (not the number of keys).
  • New bootloader (part of the firmware):
    • enables remote updating via USB,
    • better diagnostics in case of problems.
